I tried to sleep last night, but Orlak wasn’t havin’ none o’ that.

Orlak is the owner and bar keep of The Brazen Wench.
The Brazen Wench was an Inn and tavern I had created to do some story development and creative writing for Suliss’urn, another character of mine. The Brazen has slowly begun to grow on me, becoming clearer as time goes by.
The bar keep’s name was Orlak. He’d been behind the bar of The Brazen Wench since it opened, or so the rumors had it. A wizened, grizzled, scar laden dwarf that stood upon a rickety wooden box-contraption with wheels that carried him with a push from one end of the knife marked bar to the other.
Orlak’s dull gray eyes didn’t flicker upward from his polishing of a wooden tankard with dubiously stained cloth when figures approached his bar for drinks. Orlak had long ago given up any enthusiasm in seeing whomever showed up, several scars along his stumped hands and across his face had taught him to pretend as if faces did not exist.

Wow! I am impressed with the drawings! Wish they weren’t copyright (for me only :)). I like the changes that have gone through Orlak, though I like the effect of the strewn and thin hair in the first one. Though the second one is more complete and closer to human, there is something about the first one that really brings out the character.
As a channel I am picking up the soul of Orlak, shuffling through his many lifetimes, I can tell that he is not particuarly enjoying his current life. I feel that he does have a little fun, maybe teasing or even playing some nasty tricks, but overall his mood is not in the happy times. People snicker behind his back of his eye, and he hears. They are afraid of him, for he is powerful, wise, tactical, and was once quite the gentlemen. I actually see him more as a warrior, a warrior from the beginning of time that still stands today.
Tell me if I am right on my channeling of this character please.
Thank you for sharing this work of art, it really does capture the soul of someone, and now it seems I have met another person.
And sorry for my 300 paragraph comment.
Thank you so much, Nathaniel!
Orlak is a actually a little more bark than bite. He is a no nonsense sort of character than chooses to present a cantankerous facade. He’s lived most of his life in the shadow of men doing not-good-things and has done a few not-good-things itself. Think that changes a man! (Err, dwarf?)
Most people that know him actually wouldn’t dare snicker at Orlak, he’s made quite a name for himself!
I’m so glad you liked it and I don’t mind great comments like these!
I am glad to know a but more about Orlak. He is a very interesting character, I think it might be nice if you wrote sort of a story about him. About the Brazen Wench, Orlak, and maybe misfortunes of the town. Thanks again for sharing him with us!
