Thanks for stopping by! I agree JJ took a bit of a chance altering the time-line, but it's essentially the only way to revive this series. Everything that has been on the small screen is too rooted in it's past, with this one stroke JJ opened up the possibilities and gave himself room to maneuver. I found they left just enough of the characters in place to give us old folks a starting point, but he took us where *he* wanted to go, and that's what a good film should be about, after all. As a fan of the original series, I really enjoyed it. I was afraid they'd try to include too many details from the books that take place before the 5-Year Mission (some of which were just plain BORING). I think JJ Abrams made the right call by trying to make Star Trek accessible to more people (and not just sci-fi enthusiasts). Sure, the alternate timeline bit was convenient, but arguably gutsy. I also think that this movie worked b/c it's been a while since we've seen a really solid, mainstream sci-fi adventure.
