I’ve a love affair with some of the buildings found here in downtown Melbourne, Florida. They are old, some times sad and some times proud–but each one has a story to tell. Shawn and I on Wednesday went out and about the town so I could take some pictures.

We couldn’t sneak into Melbourne High School, but we could tip-toe into the old elementary school converted into Henegar Center For the Arts. I was able to take a great shot of the chandelier and one of the hallways within.

Old buildings whisper sweet nothings in my ear. I am enchanted with the idea that walls hold memories, ghosts, emotions. I wonder if I captured any while I was taking pictures?

  1. I really, really like the shuffleboard photo. The sense of age and the juxtaposition of colors and perspective are fantastic!

    • It was a surprise find, we peeked behind the high school to find this pretty much intact–just strewn with garbage. The only ones playing shuffle board were the pigeons wobbling by. It’s a shame, it was my first no foolin’ up close shuffleboard!

      Thank you!

  2. Like old buildings? Check out http://www.shorpy.com; lots of old pictures there (nothing local..), of buildings and other cool old stuff.
