Spring is coming. With spring comes a sense of renewal most of us that aren’t too bitter or jaded can’t deny. There are flowers peeking up through damp earth revealed by melting snow, little yellow/green buds at the end of once bare trees that promise us with the glory of summer leaves–and there are blogs out there, like ours, who are fresh, new and just starting out.
I’m filled with the sense of hope for this blog. I wonder how many of you had the same when you started yours, when those first few posts were sent with the faint tingle of excitement that maybe, some one, some where, will relate to you and all that you’ve written about your life and hobby?
But one mistake that bloggers occasionally make is that they underestimate how much work actually goes in to building up a readership. How much effort you have to put into pushing your blog out there and getting through to a few loyal handfuls of readers. There are a lot of sites out there for sharing your blog, your RSS feed and your links–but they don’t always guarantee comments or links back to you.
I’m so happy to note that I’ve already had a reciprocal link and first RSS subscriber in a wonderful, talented lady who shares my love for role play, geek-things and art, Eve. Eve’s blog is a wonderful thing, filled with the ups and downs of mother hood, dealing with both the joys and disappointments of the internet and all around silliness of LOL cats in addition to show casing some beautiful photography. So, say hello to her over at Life in the Garden of Eden.
And that’s one small step toward building my blog, isn’t it? Getting your first subscriber, your first commenter, your first link. That got me thinking, how can I help YOU?
The answer is pretty simple! I want to link to you. I want to read your fellow geek blogs, I want to read your reviews on movies or books, or favorite construction paper. I would like to subscribe and comment to your blogs that you, like me, have been building over the past few months in the hopes of connecting to people that are like minded.
